Wind In The Sails
On my drive in to work today, I started thinking, "What does God say about me today?" "How does God define me today?" Meditating on my identity in Christ really put the wind in my sails today, and I hope it does the same for you!
Christian, this is what God says about you today:
- In Jesus, our sin is forgiven forever.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight (Ephesians 1:7-8 ESV)
For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, (Romans 3:22b-24 ESV)
As the hymn "It is Well" says,
My sin not in part, but the whole
is nailed to the cross,
and I bear it no more,
praise the Lord, praise the Lord
O my soul!
I don't think I will ever hear that enough - Jesus has paid the debt I owe for the sins of my past, present, and future! If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven. God has justified you! Your debt has been paid! You have been redeemed!
- You have peace with God, and the peace of God today!
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1 ESV)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (John 14:27 ESV)
It seems as if life is a constant quest for inner peace and in Christ, we have it!
It seems as if life is a constant quest for inner peace and in Christ, we have it!
- The power of God lives inside you because you have been given the Holy Spirit!
In him [Christ] you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14 ESV)
and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5 ESV)
In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:22 ESV)
In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:22 ESV)
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, (2 Peter 1:3 ESV)
Christian, let's believe this, pray this, trust this, live this, memorize this, meditate on this! The power of God lives in us to be like Jesus in godliness!
- Christian, God knows your needs and He will perfectly meet all your needs today and everyday!
your Father knows what you need before you ask him. (Matthew 6:8b ESV)
And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:28-33 ESV)
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 ESV)
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:31-32 ESV)
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)
God will always give us what we need according to His purpose! He has numbered the hairs on our heads! Oh, how He loves us!
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4-7 ESV)
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4 ESV)
We will live in eternal bliss and joy in the presence of the living God, the God of all glory!
In the Lord our labor is not in vain! Oh, the vanity of pursuing worldly riches! But oh, the beauty of laying up treasure in heaven! Every prayer, every gift, every witness, every act of self-giving love, every sin that is killed, every session of reading God's Word -- and so much more matters to God.
What a list! If you have trusted Christ, this and so much more is true of you! This is your hope and mine! Peace, faith, love, hope and purpose!
If you haven't trusted Christ yet, what is stopping you?
God will always give us what we need according to His purpose! He has numbered the hairs on our heads! Oh, how He loves us!
- Christian you are seated with Christ on high. You will have eternal life with God. You will not die, rather you will see God face to face!
But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:10-11 ESV)
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. (1 Corinthians 13:12
ESV)
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. We will live in eternal bliss and joy in the presence of the living God, the God of all glory!
- Christian, you are a son of God! You are a fellow heir of the kingdom that cannot be shaken!
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. (Romans 8:14-17
ESV)
When we trust Christ we join the family of God, and we are heirs of all the glory to be revealed!
- Christian, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ intercede for you always with God the Father!
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27
ESV)
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (
1 John 2:1
ESV)
If we confess our sins, he [Jesus] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (
1 John 1:9
ESV)
We are always helped by God along the way to God!
- Christian everything you do has purpose. Everything you do for God's kingdom matters. You were created in Christ to participate in God's redemptive plan for the universe!
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (
Ephesians 2:10
ESV)
knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. (
Ephesians 6:8
ESV)
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. (
1 Corinthians 15:58
ESV)
In the Lord our labor is not in vain! Oh, the vanity of pursuing worldly riches! But oh, the beauty of laying up treasure in heaven! Every prayer, every gift, every witness, every act of self-giving love, every sin that is killed, every session of reading God's Word -- and so much more matters to God.
- Christian, you have a faith that overcomes the world!
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 ESV)
For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 John 5:4-5 ESV)
Our faith gives us the victory!
- Christian, God is with you always!
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6
ESV)
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10 ESV)
And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b ESV)
God will not abandon us! God will strengthen us, help us, and uphold us!
What a list! If you have trusted Christ, this and so much more is true of you! This is your hope and mine! Peace, faith, love, hope and purpose!
If you haven't trusted Christ yet, what is stopping you?
